A rural property in the Kinglake ranges, where a low, black-clad house sits within tall eucalypt forest. The landscape was designed to belong to the bush around it. Dry stone walls terrace the fall below the house, the banks are planted with tree ferns and native grasses, and the garden runs down to a dam that holds the reflection of the building.

Closer to the house, rock embankments are planted through with grasses and low natives so the architecture appears to rise directly from the ground. The arrival court is deliberately spare: a broad gravel apron beneath the carport roof and little else. It is a garden that settles further into its setting each year.
