A steep Wheelers Hill block resolved into terraces of rendered walls, granite and gravel, from the driveway down to the tennis court.

The site on Lum Road in Wheelers Hill falls steeply from the street to the rear boundary, and the brief was to make every level usable. Our landscape design answers the grade with curved rendered retaining walls, planted crests and generous stair runs, turning the slope into a sequence of terraces. A sweeping driveway curves past mounded planting at the front, a stepped side garden climbs between birches, and a sheltered room beneath the house holds an outdoor kitchen, long table and suspended fireplace.

Lower down, a gravel path winds between granite boulders to the tennis court, with a bench in the shade of established trees. Planting layers soft mounded forms, silver foliage and trailing groundcovers that spill over the walls. The garden is under construction now, and we are facilitating the build and directing the design on site as each terrace takes shape.
