A compact pool and spa in green mosaic, wrapped in climbers and timber battens, within a Thornbury backyard.

In Thornbury the task was to fit a pool, a lawn and outdoor dining into a modest inner north block without losing the garden. We set a soft-cornered pool with a raised spa in green mosaic against the rear boundary, with a curved swim-out step and a sun terrace in pale stone. Mesh panels along the fences carry climbers, and a tall timber batten screen closes the corner and conceals the pool equipment.

A small lawn joins the covered alfresco to the pool, crossed by stone steppers, and silver and blue-grey foliage edges the beds. Bamboo screens a barbecue nook. The pool design is built and the climbers are still growing up their mesh, so photographs of this Melbourne garden will follow.
