A period home with a deep rear garden, and a brief for a pool that belonged to the garden and not to a terrace. The design sets a lap pool and spa along the sunny boundary, surrounds them with warm-toned crazy paving, and allows the lawn to meet the stone directly.

The boundaries are hedged so that no fence is visible, stepping stones cross the lawn to the house, and a single silver birch shades the seating end. Frameless glass meets pool barrier requirements without interrupting the green.
